Larson Design Group (LDG) completed the preliminary design for the scheduled design/build replacement of a bridge carrying SR 1010, Section 770 over Tunkhannock Creek in Lemon and Clinton Townships, Wyoming County, Pennsylvania.
The existing two-span steel I-beam structure was adjacent to the intersection of SR 92 and SR 1010. The average daily traffic (ADT) volume for SR 1010 was over 1,000 vehicles per day and the SR 92 ADT was over 2,000 vehicles per day. These traffic volumes had a direct impact in the development of the replacement structure, traffic control, and construction procedures to limit the impacts to the public while delivering a cost-effective project to PennDOT.
A two-span prestressed concrete beam structure was proposed directly upstream of the existing bridge. Placing the replacement structure upstream allowed the existing structure to be remain open to traffic until the new structure was completed. LDG completed the conceptual construction, structural, and traffic control plans for the project, which received a joint permit approval from PA DEP. LDG was responsible for the review of the final design, construction, traffic, and structure plans completed by the awarded contractor’s engineer to ensure adherence to all PennDOT design policies and procedures.
