Larson Design Group is a full-service planning, architectural, interior design, and multi-disciplined engineering firm that serves all branches of the Department of Defense and a host of federal civilian agencies. We provide traditional design services through indefinite-delivery indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) services contracts, alternative delivery methods such as design-build, or unique and boutique services, for projects from feasibility studies, to buildings of all sizes, to major programs, worldwide. We work CONUS, OCONUS, in austere environments, in theatre, and in-country. We go where the mission takes us. LDG has all of the capabilities of the major design firms, but due to our size, we deliver principal-level service at a much lower cost. For Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) requirements, LDG is currently level I compliant and working toward level II certification.

Alternative Delivery

LDG’s staff has in-depth knowledge and experience with a wide variety of alternative project delivery methods including design-build, adapt-build, integrated project design, and public-private partnerships (P3). We can outline performance specifications and line drawings for trade sub-contractors to promote savings on engineering costs and will work directly with contractors and trade sub-contractors to develop designs. Our experience with diverse project delivery methods affords LDG the flexibility to employ the best solution to maximize project quality and client value.

Architecture & Interior Design

The architectural and interior design considerations for buildings in the federal government market include achieving a balance between the building’s function and cost in order to ensure that the maximum value is received for each taxpayer dollar spent on the project. We apply proven solutions related to interior layout and space configuration, effective navigation, comprehensible signage, and ADA compliance. Our staff includes LEED® accredited master planners, architects, as well as M/E/P, structural, and geotechnical engineers; all of whom collaborate alongside in-house landscape architects and environmental specialists with proven experience achieving the highest levels of LEED® certification. Our approach to architecture and interior design is focused on delivering projects that are technically and visually innovative, sustainable, efficient, unique and exciting.

Civil Engineering

Civil engineering associated with federal government clients is a core strength at LDG, and we understand that the battle is won or lost in the civil design. Using our in-house site planning and engineering services, LDG researches and analyzes each site to determine particular needs, developing plans that minimize the site preparation costs while maximizing the site’s value. From site design to stormwater management, utilities, parking requirements, permits, and occupancy considerations, LDG’s expert staff of civil engineers have spent their entire careers honing the skills necessary to successfully complete federal government projects of all types and sizes.

Construction Services

Serving as an extension of staff, LDG’s cadre of certified construction services staff is dedicated to representing your interests at the construction site. Through a variety of services such as materials testing, schedule coordination, change order management, project documentation, ensuring the work is being performed according to the plans, applicable codes, and specifications, and verifying invoices for payment, we help to ensure the project is completed on time and within budget.

Environmental

LDG’s staff of environmental specialists and scientists are successful because they continually seek to balance the needs of the owner, the community, and the environment by providing environmentally sensitive and sustainable project solutions. We have substantial experience with environmental special studies and permitting, and we are proficient in all applicable regulations, compliance and certifications including LEED®, Energy Star, Green Globes, SPiRit, and more. All of these are critical requirements in securing the environmental clearances needed to move projects forward.

Geotechnical Engineering

Whether it is evaluating the foundation requirements of a building addition or determining the slope stability and retaining wall requirements for a particular site, a thorough understanding of a project’s subsurface conditions is critical to the design of practically every project. LDG provides site characterization expertise with geologic and seismic hazards analyses to support design, identifying critical conditions early in the project so potential geohazards can be address and/or mitigated. We offer a complete range of geotechnical services including site exploration and development, geotechnical engineering (slope design and landslide remediation), wall design, trenchless construction design, subsidence risk analysis, and more. With extensive experience in field investigations, lab testing, analysis/design, and construction support services, LDG’s geotechnical staff begins work on each project during the concept stage. Our involvement continues through the design phase into project construction. This unique approach to geotechnical engineering ensures our staff is intimately familiar with a project, which helps us deliver right-sized and cost-effective solutions.

GIS/Asset & Utility Management

With a wide variety of asset management methods available, LDG believes that a one-size-fits-all approach will often fall short of meeting client expectations. Instead, LDG works with clients to understand their specific capabilities and needs and to identify a complete, tailored asset management program. LDG is experienced in standardizing data into widely recognized formats that are compatible with dozens of applications. Our highly-effective solutions help clients with the information they need to make decisions; complex databases to track assets, manage and query data, and analyze the growth trends or patterns of a region. As an award-winning member of the Esri Partner Network, we have unique knowledge and abilities to provide inventive and highly customized geographic information solutions for even the most complex projects. Our staff expertly supports the entire workflow from collection and analysis to mapping to data conversion, database design, and solution development.

M/E/P/FP Engineering

Our engineers take an exceedingly thorough approach to evaluating the unique MEP and fire protection engineering associated with each project. From ensuring the correct level of heating and cooling throughout a building, to providing electrical service supporting current and future operations, and ensuring the appropriate level of fire protection we design systems that are engineered within the context of the project. Our LEED® certified professionals evaluate the life cycle cost analysis in order to minimize operating expenses and energy needs, increase efficiency, and consider the long-term value for each project. We understand that each civilian agency and each branch of the military has unique system guidelines and preferences and LDG knows how to accommodate those differences. We are also experienced in systems such as Dr. Cheks and SpecsIntact.

Planning

We know what it takes to be successful in the federal master planning arena. We approach each installations’ unique needs with data-backed and customer-driven solutions to support the current mission as well as the future mission. Our commitment is to configure and stand up bases to provide every support required for our men and women in uniform as they defend our freedom. We are well-versed in federal regulations and criteria for planning and design experience and bring extensive proficiency in the development of Installation Design Guides (IDG), installation development plans, area development plans, area development execution plans, nodal development plans, and other site-specific studies. We can provide development of DD Form 1391s, customer Concept Documents, and other programming studies. Our experts have led charrettes around the world to work with stakeholders, identify requirements, and develop the applicable program with the necessary experience at validating these requirements against the applicable regulations and standards.

Survey & Mapping

Larson Design Group offers a range of survey and mapping services such as rights-of-way, easements, boundary surveys, drainage ways and much more. We are familiar with the sensitive nature of providing survey and mapping services near restricted and off-limit areas found at various federal installations. Using state-of-the-art technology including 3D laser scanning and drones, we have world-class capabilities to successfully execute large scale survey and mapping projects quickly and economically.

Transportation Engineering

Our transportation engineers, designers, and technicians provide comprehensive roadway, bridge, traffic, and trail design and are fully capable of conducting plans and studies to assess transportation issues and recommend solutions. Our transportation planning expertise takes into consideration the unique needs of federal environments such as setback requirements while leaving the land available for future development.

Structural Engineering

LDG’s structural engineers understand the specialized engineering that supports energy initiatives and work toward an optimal balance between technical function and economic impact. We review and consider all of a project’s structural requirements as well as the project requirements for the other engineering disciplines and use that input to develop our structural engineering approach. Whether designing collector buildings, structural foundations for wind turbines, or supporting solar panel installations LDG has the expertise to support the design of new structures as well as the rehabilitation and analysis of existing structures.
