Energy

Larson Design Group’s engineers and design professionals are committed to developing and implementing sustainable projects for clients in the energy market. All of our staff have extensive field experience and, thanks to highly collaborative working relationships with federal, state, and local agencies, will serve as trusted advisors and regulatory experts. LDG fills the gap between large Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) firms and other specialty engineering companies by offering a broad range of expertise with quality, flexibility, responsiveness, personal approach, and value. Engineers, designers, and specialists collaborate on an as-needed basis to ensure the right skill set is provided for each project to maximize efficiency, which translates into substantially lower overhead costs.

Alternative Fueling

With experience working on some of the nation’s largest and most innovative compressed natural gas (CNG), hydrogen, and electric facilities, our design experts have established LDG as a national leader in alternative fuel design. We provide full-service project solutions from fleet feasibility studies and site evaluation to gas detection systems and equipment specifications. Our experience has uniquely positioned LDG to educate communities on the benefits of alternative fuels and the potential ROI for fleet conversion. In 2010, we established the CNG Focus Group to foster learning, collaboration, and action on CNG fueling and infrastructure; bringing together community leaders and fleet managers. Since then we have become national leaders in comprehensive planning for CNG fleet fueling and station design with a track record of innovation, advocacy, stewardship, and success. Recently we have assisted the Canadian government with the development of the design codes for alternative fueling in Canada.

Energy Services

Civil Engineering

LDG has in-house engineers specializing in energy projects. We research and analyze each site to determine its unique needs and create design plans that maximize usage and space. With a particular expertise in designing collector buildings and stormwater management, our engineers have spent their entire careers performing civil engineering design for energy projects and have the skills needed to understand and navigate every step to functional, sustainable, and cost-efficient solutions.

Construction Services

LDG’s cadre of certified construction services staff is dedicated to representing your interests at the construction site. Through a variety of services such as materials testing, schedule coordination, change order management, project documentation, ensuring the work is being performed according to the plans, applicable codes, and specifications, and verifying invoices for payment, we help to ensure the project is completed on time and within budget.

Environmental

LDG’s staff of environmental specialists and scientists are successful because they continually seek to balance the needs of the owner, the community, and the environment by providing environmentally sensitive and sustainable project solutions. We have substantial experience with stream mitigation projects, wetland identification and delineation, threatened and endangered species habitat identification, air quality monitoring, leak detection and repair (LDAR), and coordinating with permitting agencies. All of these are critical requirements in securing the environmental clearances needed to move energy projects forward.

Geotechnical Engineering

Larson Design Group offers a complete range of geotechnical services for energy projects including site exploration, foundation design for well pads, pump stations, compressor stations, wind or solar farms, roadway layout, and much more. geotechnical staff begins work on each project during the concept stage, and their involvement continues through the design phase into project construction. This unique approach to geotechnical engineering ensures our staff is intimately familiar with a project, which helps us deliver right-sized and cost-effective solutions.

GIS / Asset Management

With a wide variety of asset management methods available, LDG believes that a one-size-fits-all approach will often fall short of meeting client expectations. Instead, LDG works with clients to understand their specific capabilities and needs and to identify a complete, tailored asset management program. This practice incorporates detailed asset inventories, identification and prioritization of routine maintenance and needed capital improvements, and critical asset analysis and long-range financial planning to maintain system performance. Mapping these complex systems and implementing a geographic information system (GIS) allows clients to track problems, look at trends, and locate aging infrastructure or defects in the system. All of this affords energy clients the opportunity to track assets, assess infrastructure, and plan for the future.

Permitting

Permitting and regulatory compliance can be complex. Our experienced, in-house team manages the planning and permitting process in close collaboration with clients and regulators. LDG develops project plans and permit packages tailored to specific needs and budgets regardless of the project’s location, size, or complexity.

Services may include state environmental permitting, agency application preparation, US Army Corps of Engineers permitting guidance, erosion and sediment control plans, NPDES, county agency coordination, and regulatory strategies or negotiations.

Structural Engineering

LDG’s structural engineers understand the specialized engineering that supports energy initiatives and work toward an optimal balance between technical function and economic impact. We review and consider all of a project’s structural requirements as well as the project requirements for the other engineering disciplines and use that input to develop our structural engineering approach. Whether designing collector buildings, structural foundations for wind turbines, or supporting solar panel installations LDG has the expertise to support the design of new structures as well as the rehabilitation and analysis of existing structures.

Survey & Mapping

Larson Design Group offers a range of survey and mapping services such as well pad surveys, rights-of-way, easements, boundary surveys, drainage ways and much more. Using state-of-the-art technology including 3D laser scanning and drones, we have world-class capabilities to successfully execute large scale survey and mapping projects quickly and economically.
