Challenge: The 165-year-old historic covered bridge’s far abutment had been replaced due to damages sustained during major flooding in September 2011. The Sullivan County Commissioners loved the look of the new abutment so much that they wanted the other side to match.
Solution: We replaced the near abutment with an architectural stone treatment.
Outcome: The enhancement resulted in a superior substructure, ensuring the survival of a historic structure that enhances tourism, recreation, and quality of life in Sullivan County. Local residents were enthusiastic about the project and assisted by providing property for the staging of construction material.
