The mile long access road is planned to promote commercial and industrial growth by providing improved access for the Valley Industrial Park to the interstate system. Theproject began with the identification of environmentally sensitive areas, including wetlands, steep slopes, agricultural resources, historic properties and archeologically sensitive areas. The alternatives analysis included minimizing environmental impacts to facilitate the project schedule and available funds, and developing future traffic projections. The preferred alignment utilized spiral curves to overcome a steepgrade at one intersection as well as keep wetland impacts deminimus. The project included significant agency and utility coordination as well as innovative designs to meet strict PCSM requirements.
