Larson Design Group (LDG) is part of the team supporting the City of Pittsburgh’s Public Realm Projects, a series of improvements intended to strengthen civic spaces and connections throughout downtown Pittsburgh. LDG’s work includes civil engineering, schematic design, traffic analysis, and data collection.
The projects encompass the 8th Street Block Civic Park, Cultural District public spaces and streetscapes, Market Square and its connecting streets, and Liberty Avenue medians. Across these locations, LDG has developed site and utility plans, grading and stormwater designs, construction documents, cost estimates, and permit materials in coordination with the City, project team, and utility providers.
For the Cultural District streetscapes and Market Square, LDG worked with City officials to identify problem areas and develop concepts for streets and public spaces. The Market Square work also included traffic counts and analysis of alternatives to help inform the design.
Along Liberty Avenue, LDG developed concepts for a redesigned corridor between Commonwealth Place and Stanwix Street. The concepts explore designated bicycle lanes, wider sidewalks, and a widened median with space for recreational activities, while accounting for traffic operations and coordination with Pittsburgh Regional Transit.
Together, the projects support the City’s broader effort to connect civic destinations, make better use of existing assets, and encourage continued investment in downtown Pittsburgh.
