Matanzas High School Building 11 HVAC Replacement

Flagler County Public Schools
Palm Coast, Florida

Larson Design Group (LDG) provided architectural and structural engineering services for the HVAC modernization of the approximately 9,500-square-foot Matanzas High School Fieldhouse.

The project replaced aging direct-expansion systems serving the weight room, wrestling room, and men’s and women’s locker rooms with a new chilled-water-based solution connected to the campus infrastructure. Improvements included a ground-mounted 100% outside air unit, new variable air volume distribution, replacement cooling and exhaust equipment, and integration with the existing Johnson Controls Building Automation System for centralized monitoring and control.

LDG designed the architectural and structural modifications needed to accommodate the new equipment within the existing facility. The work included equipment supports, wall penetrations, modifications to existing openings, a new mechanical equipment enclosure, building-envelope repairs, and remediation of affected walls and ceilings. LDG also provided permitting and bidding assistance, construction administration, site observations, submittal review, and contractor coordination.

The completed retrofit improves ventilation, occupant comfort, energy performance, and long-term reliability for the student-athletes and staff who use the fieldhouse’s training, wrestling, and locker room facilities.
