Intermediate High School

This addition to the existing high school campus houses the district’s freshmen students. It includes 16 core classrooms, science lab, computer lab, art room, media center, administrative area, 1,000 seat gymnasium, and a central dining/commons area. The mission was to create a ‘friendly’ addition to the existing Coweta High School campus with similar colors, rhythm, and shake. Inside, a transparent wall unites the shared space of the Media Center/Commons and the area is celebrated as a beacon of the building – a place to gather. The idea of “The Beacon of Light” was expressed structurally with a clerestory which invites natural light, and functionally with the Media Center serving as a gathering place for students, media, knowledge, and technology.
