This school serves 700 PreK-4 students, and is divided into four wings. Each wing has a Storm Shelter for quick access, and each grade level has a shared “flex” learning area. The wings are color coded for ease of way-finding, and the colors are playfully combined in the Media Center, Gym and other common areas. Natural daylighting was emphasized in the design of the school, while maintaining energy efficiency. This was achieved by providing 95% of the teaching spaces with natural daylighting and using ground-source geothermal for the HVAC system. The project was named “Outstanding Project” winner by Learning by Design and “Education Interiors Showcase” winner from American School & University in 2015.
