Jones Early Childhood Center

Jones Public Schools
Jones, OK

The Early Childhood Center was built as an addition to the existing Jones Elementary School and houses three neighborhoods of five classrooms each, a kitchen, and a dining space with stage. Classrooms for art, music, and SPED double as a tornado shelter. The addition also creates a new main entrance for the entire school.

Squares, circles, and triangles in primary colors are used for wayfinding and identifying the “pod” neighborhoods that are the heart of the building. Each neighborhood includes a teachers’ workroom with staff toilet, student sink area, and storage cubbies. Classroom millwork was reduced in favor of mobile furniture to enhance flexibility. The curved building layout embraces a robust outdoor play area for multiple ability levels.
