Emergency Spares Warehouse

PPL requested Larson Design Group (LDG) to assist in the design of a 31,000 square-foot facility to safely store emergency spare parts for their turbine-generator systems. The high bay portion of the facility has a 60-foot eave height and houses a multi-girder overhead crane with an 80-ton lift capacity. Site and structural design services provided rail and road access to the new warehouse. Mechanical and electrical design services provided automatic heating controls and distribution since PPL personnel are not regularly or frequently required to be present at the facility. Due to the structural limitations of the site’s soils, the rail portion within the building, building columns, and slab design are supported by steel piles and steel reinforced concrete pile caps.

Construction administration services were also provided to solicit competitive costs for the pre-engineered building and 80-ton crane systems.
