Village of Franklinville Water/Wastewater Improvements for Great Lakes Cheese

Village of Franklinville
Franklinville, NY

LDG delivered preliminary and final design, bidding, construction administration, and on-site inspection services for the Village of Franklinville’s water and wastewater upgrades. These improvements were essential to support the development of a new 486,000-square-foot Great Lakes Cheese (GLC) manufacturing facility on a 130-acre site north of the village. The project required expanding the village water system for supply and fire protection and updating the wastewater system for domestic discharge.

LDG evaluated the infrastructure needs, presented alternatives, and recommended solutions with estimated costs and schedules in collaboration with the Cattaraugus County IDA, Cattaraugus County, village, and GLC. Major water system enhancements included a new groundwater well (permitted for 400 gpm), well house improvements, addition of backup power, a new 800,000-gallon storage tank, 3,000 feet of new water main, and replacement and upsizing on an additional 5,00 feet of water main. Hydraulic modeling was utilized to evaluate alternatives for upsizing water mains and sitting in the new tank to optimize the most beneficial system layout and sizing to provide a reliable 3,000 gpm fire flow to the new GLC facility. A new sewer force main was also designed to transport domestic wastewater from the GLC facility’s pump station to the village’s collection system, ensuring reliable utility services for this key economic development.
