Southeast Morris County Municipal Utilities Authority GIS Program

Southeast Morris County Municipal Utilities Authority
Cedar Knolls, Morris County, NJ

Since 2018, LDG has provided enterprise-wide GIS implementation services, creating a robust GIS system and enhancing workflows across the entire organization of Southeast Morris County Municipal Utility Authority [SMCMUA] in Cedar Knolls, Morris County, New Jersey. SMCMUA’s service area covers 670 square miles and provides drinking water to over 15,000 residential and 2500 commercial/industrial accounts.

LDG performed technical services, including needs assessment and implementation planning, field data collection, database design, enterprise implementation, utility network implementation, program management, database administration, staff augmentation, hydraulic modeling, workflow enhancement, and continuous maintenance of the data and architecture. LDG staff serve as an extension of SMCMUA, where we can direct resources, edit, and maintain the GIS while performing training services for new and current staff. LDG has implemented GIS workflows across SMCMUA’s entire organization, including leadership, board of directors, engineering, operations, water quality, safety, and customer service.

SMCMUA’s comprehensive utility network model allows field staff to quickly isolate vales and affected customers. We have developed workflows to address and notify residents when there are outages and issues. The utility network database is the central information that drives operations decisions for the entire organization. Our team developed desktop and mobile applications to edit, update, visualize, and share information across the organization. These quick responsive workflows enable field and operational staff to make quick and informed data driven decisions.

LDG has worked with SMCMUA on regulatory reporting, lead service line inventorying, hydraulic modeling, engineering programs, and safety checklists. We have leveraged GIS applications like experience builder, dashboards, hubs, and story maps to assist with communication with other agencies and the public. LDG recently won an award at the Esri IMGIS conference for project collaboration and communication.
