Village of South Corning Water System Improvement Projects Phase II

Village of South Corning
South Corning, Stueben County, NY

LDG delivered comprehensive engineering services for the Village of South Corning’s water system improvements. Services included site survey, topographic mapping, permitting, funding coordination, preliminary and final design, construction administration, and resident inspection. LDG began by completing an engineering study to assess current and future water supply needs, which involved drilling a test well and evaluating options for supplementing the Village’s water supply. The project scope was supported by a preliminary engineering and environmental report, helping to secure grant funding.

The project entailed several major upgrades: replacing the existing water storage tank with a new 650,000-gallon tank at a higher elevation to improve system pressure; upgrading the backup water supply connection to the City of Corning with automation technology; installing a greensand filtration system to remove iron and manganese from well water, thus enhancing water quality; and replacing approximately 23,000 feet of outdated watermain, improving service to about 356 connections and replacing hydrants and valves.

Throughout the design phase, LDG provided detailed mapping, geotechnical investigations, and cost estimates, and assisted with obtaining all necessary permits. During construction, LDG managed bidding, conducted inspections, maintained records, and addressed environmental challenges, such as contaminated soils, ensuring the project met both technical and regulatory standards while protecting the project’s budget and schedule.
