Pathway To Health Site Design – UPMC Susquehanna

With expansion and construction of the Patient Tower on the campus of UPMC Susquehanna, along with additional site design improvements to the Williamsport campus, City and Health System officials both recognized a need for a more direct route from I-180 to the doorstep of the Health System’s Williamsport campus. A route was identified as the “Pathway to Health”; a connecting link that will help bring motorists from I-180 to the Williamsport Campus.

A project of this magnitude and size was not able to be completed in one phase. The approach has been to complete sections in phases as funding opportunities present themselves. Starting in 2011, Phase 1 was completed from High Street to Park Avenue; in 2012, Phase 2 was completed from Park Avenue to Little League Boulevard. Both Phases include new concrete sidewalks, curbs, accessible curb ramps, lighting, new traffic signals, signage, paving improvements, and landscaping. In addition to the design of Phase 2, Larson Design Group (LDG) provided construction inspection services.

With Phases 1 and 2 both complete, Phases 3 and 4 are left to be completed and make the final connection with I-180. Funding opportunities are currently being researched and applications for funding have been submitted.
