Summer is the season to spend time outdoors, from the mountains to the beach and everything in between – and all those places have parks, trails and playgrounds to enjoy that are the result of hard work by local Parks and Recreation departments.
The National Recreation and Parks Association designates every July as Parks and Recreation Month, a chance to recognize that hard work and celebrate the outdoor spaces that we all appreciate. Over the years, Larson Design Group (LDG) has completed many projects for recreational places, including:
East Synder Regional Recreation Park (Penn Twp.): LDG provided design services for a Master Site Plan for a regional recreation park facility that included renovations to existing ball fields and the addition of new ones, as well as new pavilions, concession stands, two playgrounds, restrooms and more.
Lose Park Renovations (Williamsport): For the rehabilitation of this 1.8-acre park, LDG provided survey, site design and analysis, construction administration, and landscape architecture after the existing equipment was demolished to make way for the new, improved space. Construction included walkways, tot-lot and youth playgrounds with woodcarpet surface, a community garden, and new lighting.
Buffalo Valley Rail Trail (Lewisburg): LDG was instrumental in the engineering and final design for the construction of a picturesque nine-mile Rails to Trails facility from Lewisburg to Mifflinburg. In addition to meeting a tight timeframe for funding availability, the project included safe crossings at crossroads, establishing mile markers and their GPS coordinates, and access areas with parking, restrooms and signage at each end of the trail.
