LDG-Led Bridge Project Wins County Commissioners Award

For the second year in a row, a project led by Larson Design Group (LDG) has been recognized by the County Commissioners Association of Pennsylvania (CCAP) for innovative and efficient bridge work. The CCAP, Pennsylvania Highway Information Association (PHIA), and the PA Department of Transportation (PennDOT) jointly awarded its 2020 Road and Bridge Safety Improvement Award to Bradford County and LDG’s “bundle” approach to repairing or replacing county-owned eight bridges.

In bridge bundling, the overall design and construction processes are similar to conventional bridge projects but working on multiple bridges at once allows for more streamlined planning, work and end delivery, as well as significant cost savings of 25-50 percent on design and up to 15 percent on construction. In Bradford County, this bundle method reduced the number of structurally deficient or poor condition bridges by 34 percent and cost the county only $7.7 million for the entire program.

LDG also coordinated with multiple entities for the duration of the project, including the County, seven townships, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), the PA Game Commission, Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC), and Susquehanna River Basin Commission (SRBC).

I’m proud of our team and their constant efforts to find better and more costeffective methods to support our important local government clients,” said Steve Wilver, LDG Vice President of Transportation. Bradford County worked closely with LDG to develop the program and their support was instrumental to the success of the project. I’m very pleased that our team and Bradford County have been recognized for their efforts with this award.
