Larson Design Group Appoints David Schaarsmith as COO

In a continuation of its two-year strategic evolution of growth and development, Larson Design Group (LDG) is moving forward with additional exciting changes in leadership. Following the recent transition of David Martin to CEO, the company is pleased to announce that David Schaarsmith, LDG’s Vice President of Infrastructure, has assumed the role of COO, which was previously held by Martin.

As we move forward with our strategic initiative to expand our national presence for architecture, engineering and consulting services, Dave’s experience and a track record for success will be of critical value,” Martin said. “As a member of the Executive Leadership Team, Dave will provide forwardthinking leadership of the operation as we expand through organic growth and acquisition.

David joined LDG in April 2019, bringing a 20-year track record of client growth and operational excellence in Planning and Engineering Consulting to LDG, including a wealth of knowledge in public policy, resource management, comprehensive and environmental planning, and military master planning and programming.

He joined LDG after a successful tenure with Michael Baker International, where he mostly recently served as Northern California Office Executive/Area Executive, a position in which he oversaw the management, personnel and business activities for eight office locations including Architecture, Bridge, Environmental, Geospatial, Planning, Surface Water, Transportation and Water/Wastewater departments.

I am honored to succeed Dave Martin in this critical role at LDG and am looking forward to working with our employee-owners to drive strategic growth, superior client relationships and dedication to the communities in which we operate,” Schaarsmith said. “This is an exciting time to be a part of Larson Design Group as we continue to grow nationally to better serve our clients in new markets.

David is a certified planner and holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry with environmental sciences from the University of Notre Dame, and master’s degrees in resource management from Antioch New England Graduate School and in public policy and management from Carnegie Mellon University. He was a Peace Corps Volunteer and participated in Leadership Development Initiative XV at Leadership Pittsburgh.

David will be based in LDG’s Pittsburgh office and will travel regularly to interact with LDG’s geographically dispersed leadership team.
