Oklahoma City, OK – Larson Design Group (LDG), an award-winning, employee-owned national architecture, engineering, and consulting firm, recently joined community members, educators, and local officials for the groundbreaking of the new Mid-Del Public Schools Townsend Elementary School. LDG served as the Architect for the 82,000-square-foot facility, designed to redefine the elementary learning experience for Mid-Del Public Schools students with contemporary architecture and innovative educational spaces.
Projected to serve 400–450 students, the new school includes flexible learning spaces, collaborative areas, and specialized facilities such as a storm shelter gym, media center, and discovery zones, all fostering safe, inspiring, and engaging 21st-century learning.
“Townsend Elementary is more than a building – it’s a space built for exploration, collaboration, and growth,” said Keith Evans, Project Architect at LDG. “We’re proud to design a school that reflects the Mid-Del community’s vision for education.”
LDG’s design centers on a north-south central spine, anchoring shared spaces and organizing classroom wings into grade-level neighborhoods, including specialized areas for deaf education. The site plan supports safe traffic circulation with dedicated loops for parent drop-off, bus service, and early childhood access, while outdoor classrooms, nature-inspired playgrounds, and multi-purpose athletic spaces enhance learning and community connection.

Landscape and sustainability features include native plantings, shade trees, and stormwater management systems, ensuring an energy-efficient, resilient campus. The existing school will remain operational during construction, with the old building removed afterward to make way for parking and improved traffic flow.
As the first shovels hit the ground, the new Townsend Elementary stands as a symbol of progress, providing a safe, engaging, and future-ready space for the Mid-Del community.
