LDG Names Joseph Romano as VP of Transportation

Larson Design Group (LDG) is pleased to announce a key change in the leadership of its Transportation Group. Joe Romano IV has transitioned into the role of Vice President of Transportation following the retirement of Stevan Wilver, who leaves LDG after 29 years.

Joe joined LDG in 2014 and moves into his new role after four years as Director of Highway Designwhere he leveraged a balanced mix of technical knowledge and strong interpersonal skills to ensure successful results for his clients in fields such as highway and bridge design; federal, state and municipal services; traffic analysis; construction administration; and inspections.

“I’m honored to step into this role and continue the excellent work that established LDG as an award-winning firm for transportation projects of every size and scope,” Joe said. “As Vice President, I am committed to expanding that work and our Group’s capabilities, and I will ensure that LDG continues to exceed our clients’ expectations.”

As VP of Transportation, Joe will maintain and expand upon the excellent professional relationships that have made LDG a go-to firm for innovative, award-winning transportation projects, and will guide the firm’s professional and technical teams that specialize in bridge design, bridge safety inspections, bridge maintenance, highway design and construction inspection/management.

In addition to his day-to-day work, Joe is deeply engaged in activities that benefit the industry, serving on the national Board of Planning and Design for American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA) and Chair of LDG’s Political Action Committee, a bipartisan group that works to support local, state and federal politicians who advocate for transportation-related issues and legislation. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Drexel University and registered as a Professional Engineer in both Pennsylvania and Delaware.

Steve joined LDG in 1992 as a Structural Engineer and consistently built upon both his technical knowledge and leadership skills. His 35 years of experience in designing and developing transportation-related projects guided the firm’s expansion in the Transportation field, helping make LDG an indispensable asset to public and private clients alike. He was instrumental in developing a robust relationship with the PA Department of Transportation (PennDOT), leading to dozens of significant projects, many of which have garnered prestigious industry awards for their innovation, design and execution.

I have been very fortunate to be a part of LDG’s history and having contributed to its growth and success,” Steve said. “Having watched it become the reputable company it is today, I am confident in the new leadership and their ability to carry on the traditions of LDG.

I have great admiration for Steve, whose contributions to LDG over the last 29 years have been significant,” said David Schaarsmith, LDG Chief Operations OfficerWe believe that Joe’s strong technical knowledge and enthusiasm make him extremely well suited to continue the standard of excellence that Steve set for the Transportation Group, and I am excited about the new opportunities before us under this new leadership.
