Innovation + Insights: LDG Environmental Team Uses Unique Specialty for Species Relocation

Innovation + Insights explore the ways in which our people embrace new technologies and approaches in our industry, seeking to continuously evaluate and improve our processes and services.

WILLIAMSPORT, PA – Larson Design Group (LDG), an award-winning, employee-owned national architecture, engineering, and consulting firm, is proud to employ team members who possess a range of unique skillsets and designations.

Recently, LDG Sr. Environmental Technician Eddie Stockert put his own specialty as a qualified fisheries biologist to use, successfully completing a fish and herpetofauna species relocation along the Enola Low Grade Trail in Lancaster County. Upgrades to the trail’s infrastructure threatened to impact adjacent watercourses and their inhabitant species, which are required by law to be relocated downstream by a qualified biologist.

Eddie and a colleague from partner Mitchell Knorr Contracting, Inc. relocated several thousand blacknose dace, creek chubs, bullfrogs, dusky salamanders, and eastern long-tailed salamanders, in addition to several snapping turtles, downstream and out of harm’s way of the project.

“Our biologists are always wanting to do something interesting and a little different, and this project provided that opportunity,” said LDG’s Ken Stockert, Sr. Technical Manager for the Environmental team. “Eddie’s qualification as a fisheries biologist allows us to offer multiple services and build on our knowledge and experience with them. It benefits everyone when we get to utilize one of the unique skills of our team.”
