Employee Spotlight: Maria Grimes

At Larson Design Group (LDG), we believe that our employees are our greatest asset. Meet Maria Grimes, Sr. Architectural Designer, who is based in our Columbus, OH, office.

What drew you to apply to LDG?

When I learned about LDG, I was drawn to apply because of the people, culture, and career growth opportunities. Four years later I continue to be excited by those same things plus many others.

What do you enjoy most about working for an employee-owned company?

As an employee-owned company, LDG is different. The one thing I think is most different and I enjoy is that there is an openness and honesty throughout the organization. This openness and honesty I think allows for all employees to feel confident, comfortable, heard and understood in their workplace. Employees are encouraged to attend events throughout the year where information is shared about current and future goings on, employees are always encouraged to ask questions and provide feedback and there is always an open-door policy at all levels of the organization. I think all of this helps to foster the great culture here at LDG.

Before joining LDG, what was the most interesting or unique job you had?

I have not had any unusual jobs per se, but when I was younger, I worked in both food service and retail and all those early positions taught me a great deal about good customer service as well as provided me with insight into those industries. Those skills and industry insights I continue to use and apply daily while working on projects.

What is something that most people don’t know about you?

I really enjoy playing games and putting together puzzles. I think one of the reasons I enjoy the work we do so much is because it often feels like putting together a giant puzzle.

Which one of LDG’s core values do you most identify with and why?

I think of all the LDG core values, I most identify with Teamwork and Client Service Excellence. I have always believed in providing excellent client service through strong communication, working hard and providing a great product. All that said, I think it takes a whole team working hard, efficiently and together to provide the very best for our clients.
