Accolades: Larson Design Group Receives 2023 EBJ Business Achievement Award

Through Accolades, LDG shares news of the awards, rankings, and professional achievements that recognize our people, our hard work, and our exceptional client service.

Larson Design Group (LDG), an award-winning, employee-owned national architecture, engineering, and consulting firm, is pleased to be a recipient of a 2023 Business Achievement Award in Information Management from Environmental Business Journal (EBJ), an independent business research publication that has provided strategic market intelligence to the environmental industry since 1988.

LDG was recognized for its Non-Intrusive Best Management Practices (BMP) Verification method, a protocol to collect and analyze agricultural data and practices required for Countywide Action Plans (CAP) set forth by Pennsylvania counties within the Chesapeake Bay Watershed. These CAPs aim to reduce sediment and nutrients discharged into the watershed.

LDG’s approach is most notable for using only publicly accessible data and observations to collect BMP data, eliminating the complications of state or federal employees requiring access to private property. In addition, the process is completed on a Geographic Information System (GIS) platform that allows counties to not only identify new BMPs but to re-verify existing features, while tracking them digitally for future verification efforts. This has reduced BMP verification time by up to 75 percent and frees up staff time, allowing districts with smaller staff to complete the work more effectively and efficiently.

Most notably, the BMP methodology was presented at a federal level to receive approval for utilization by all Chesapeake Bay States for Agricultural BMP Verification processes. The program went through a rigorous approval process, including moving through a Chesapeake Bay Program Agricultural Workgroup review and approvals and a third-party review. In August 2023, the methodology was approved and is now recognized as a BMP Verification Method for all six Chesapeake Bay states and the District of Columbia.

“In a year of strong growth and financial performance for the environmental industry in 2023, a number of companies set themselves apart with performance, transactions or projects that merit special recognition,” said Grant Ferrier, editor of Environmental Business Journal and chair of the EBJ Business Achievement Award selection committee. “With energy transition, climate resilience, and new federal programs driving business, as well as traditional environmental market drivers in infrastructure, air quality, remediation, water and wastewater, it is understandable that most companies report growing demand for environmental technology and services.”

“LDG is proud to have created a flexible, innovative approach to collecting the data that is crucial to the larger pursuit of keeping the Chesapeake Bay healthy for generations to come, and we’re honored to be recognized for it by such a reputable and long-standing leader in the environmental industry as EBJ,” said LDG Infrastructure Operations Manager & Vice President Gary Sheets.
