Elmira, NY – Larson Design Group (LDG) is proud to announce that the River Crossing component of the Chemung County Sewer District’s (CCSD) Wastewater Conveyance Project has been honored with the 2024 Outstanding Civil Engineering Project Award by the New York State American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).
Part of the larger CCSD Consolidation Program, the River Crossing project was designed to protect local waterways while providing long-term benefits to the community. The system safely conveys wastewater beneath the Chemung River, improving service for residents and supporting water quality initiatives in the Chesapeake Bay watershed.
The project highlighted several key achievements:
- Environmental protection: Special measures were implemented to safeguard the Green Floater mussel, a threatened species inhabiting the Chemung River.
- Cost efficiency: By reusing sections of the existing infrastructure, the project reduced expenses and minimized the financial impact on local ratepayers.
- Collaborative approach: CCSD partnered with LDG, Arcadis, and Vacri Construction to complete the project on time while prioritizing community interests.
“This award reflects the dedication of everyone involved, from our partners and clients to our design and construction teams,” said Brad Sick, Project Manager at Larson Design Group. “It’s rewarding to see a project that enhances local infrastructure also be recognized for its technical excellence and positive community impact.”
The recognition event took place on September 22 at the project site in Elmira, NY, celebrating the project’s success and its lasting positive impact on Chemung County.
LDG remains committed to delivering infrastructure that strengthens communities, protects natural resources, and provides tangible value to residents.
