PITTSBURGH – Larson Design Group (LDG), an award-winning, employee-owned national architecture, engineering, and consulting firm, is the proud recipient of an American Society of Highway Engineers (ASHE) Award, given at the Pittsburgh chapter’s annual Past Presidents Banquet on Nov. 4.

LDG won Outstanding Project for its Transportation Study and Roundabout Design for the McLaughlin Run Road and McMillan/Lesnett Road intersection in Upper St. Clair township, which experienced significant, persistent congestion, especially during peak hours, and was prone to flooding. Other unique challenges of the project included deteriorating infrastructure, acquisition of federal property, and more.

As prime consultant for alternatives analysis, preliminary engineering, final design, and construction consultation services, LDG advocated for a roundabout as the solution and expertly guided it through design and execution. The project successfully converted a previously signalized intersection in poor condition into a free-flowing roundabout that now serves as an attractive, sustainable gateway to the community and improves safety and efficiency, alleviates congestion, and resolves frequent flooding incidents.

“We continue to be grateful for the opportunity to work with PennDOT District 11 in delivering this impactful project, and for the positive response from the Upper St. Clair community for the traffic improvements,” said Damon Rhodes, LDG Director of Business Development, who attended the event with several LDG team members.

One of the transportation industry’s premier networking organizations, ASHE has been recognizing outstanding bridge and highway engineering projects and individuals since its inception in 1958.
