LDG’s Retail Design Group Hosts Penn College of Technology Classes

Larson Design Group’s Retail Group recently hosted classes from Pennsylvania College of Technology for a day of learning about architecture.

The students are enrolled in Introduction to Architecture, a course taught by Robert Wozniak and Geoffrey Campbell, professors in PCT’s Architectural Department. The course provides students with an overview of the architectural field, with an emphasis on tours of architectural and construction-related businesses. Course topics include career paths, educational opportunities, registration requirements, and architects’ responsibilities.

“We chose LDG because we appreciate the relationship that we have developed over the years,” said Wozniak. “Our goal is to expose these first semester students to as many LDG departments as possible, communicate LDG’s history and future, explore some of LDG’s notable projects, and show students how an architecture and engineering firm functions internally.”

During their visit, students went on a tour of Water Tower Square, learned about LEED technology and sustainable design, and received overviews about several different careers at LDG. Students were encouraged to ask questions, and participated in a virtual reality demonstration.

“We’ve hosted classes from Penn College many times over the past few years,” said Kara Demmien, project designer in LDG’s Retail Design Group and a leader of the firm’s Williamsport office. “It feels great to contribute to the learning of future architects. Plus, we hire many Penn College graduates, and we’ve found that they make wonderful employees.”

LDG currently employs 80 Penn College graduates. Earlier this year, LDG completed fundraising for the Ken Larson Scholarship at Pennsylvania College of Technology. The scholarship benefits students enrolled in majors related to LDG specialties, such as architecture, engineering and surveying.
