A Larson Design Group (LDG) team member recently lent his experience to a professional organization, helping to review and update a well-known and highly distributed piece of documentation used for accuracy and consistency in Building Documentation.
Michael Petrantoni, a Geomatics Technician based in LDG’s Pittsburgh office, assisted the U.S. Institute of Building Documentation (USIBD) in the review of one of the organization’s most crucial annual projects: its Level of Accuracy (LOA) standard, the USIBD’s most-downloaded document.
The LOA is a guideline that enables professionals in the architectural, engineering and construction industries – among others – to “specify and articulate with clarity the accuracy and means by which to represent and document existing conditions,” according to its official description. Its intent is to provide a framework for these industries to establish standards and consistency in Building Documentation, so that those employing it “will more likely achieve the accuracy results they desire.”
For the past year, Michael – an acting member of USIBD – has served on the LOA subcommittee, assisting with the latest version of this important documentation. He reviewed the versions as the LOA went through its revision process, provided feedback and participated in committee meetings. He said that he viewed the experience as overwhelmingly positive.
“I joined the sub-committee about a year ago, and as I become more involved with this organization and subcommittee, I felt myself grow personally as well as professionally,” he said. “The colleagues I served on the committee with are leaders in the industry and are very esteemed and knowledgeable people.”
The USIBD was “founded to promote and facilitate Building Documentation as a distinct industry … establishing standards, guidelines and best practices to foster excellence in the productivity, quality and safety of the documentation process,” according to its website.
