David Schaarsmith, AICP, LEED AP

Dave is a dedicated leader with over 20 years of experience in client growth and operational excellence within the A/E consulting industry. With a background in master planning, he brings a strong history of emphasizing strategic thinking and positive leadership to develop staff and drive organizational growth.

As LDG’s President and Chief Executive Officer, Dave leads the firm’s overarching vision and strategy, working closely with the Board and leadership team to position the organization for long-term success. He is responsible for shaping enterprise-level priorities, guiding organizational performance, and ensuring alignment between LDG’s mission, strategic goals, and operational execution. 

Dave previously served LDG for five years as Chief Operating Officer. In this role, he worked closely with the Board and senior leadership to establish short- and long-range goals, strategies, plans, and policies. He also led the implementation of strategic and tactical initiatives related to the firm’s technical services and operations. During his tenure as COO, Dave oversaw LDG’s operations through a period of significant growth, including the formation of a federal practice, expansion into three new states, and nearly doubling annual revenue. 

Dave is a certified planner and holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with Environmental Sciences from the University of Notre Dame, as well as master’s degrees in Resource Management from Antioch University and Public Policy and Management from Carnegie Mellon University. He served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Ghana, West Africa, and has participated in the Leadership Development Initiative at Leadership Pittsburgh and the Senior Executive Institute with the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC).
