Creativity, Technology on Display in LDG’s First Technical Symposium

Innovation and learning are two of Larson Design Group (LDG)’s core values, and 2020 was an excellent year to showcase how they’re implemented in day-to-day operationsTo that end, LDG recently held its inaugural TechTalks symposium, an event aimed at sharing and celebrating technical accomplishments and technologies utilized across LDG.

TechTalks was born out of the Prodigy Program, one of LDG’s internal development programs that focuses on an introduction to leadership principles. The program’s participants wanted a way to highlight and celebrate technical-level staff and knowledge leaders within LDG, while promoting the most up-to-date industry-related technologies, equipment, processes, and software that are being utilized at the company. By sharing internal expertise, staff could learn from each other, advancing understanding from one group to another – and even among themselves – while also demonstrating resources that are available to all team members.

The virtual format for the first year was intentional so that team members from any of LDG’s office locations were able to participate as presenters or attendeesFour presentations were chosen from those submitted by LDG staff, representing the Buildings, Infrastructure, Retail and Transportation operational markets.

Presentations included the importance of visualizations and renderings; the benefits of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) hubs and real-time statistics; Matterport, an immersive 3D digital modeling technology; and the unique application of precast concrete and segmental bridge design. Each presenter also moderated a live Q&A after each presentation.

It’s important to take time and step back from the daily deadlines to learn from the subject-expertise among us, appreciate the impact of our efforts and to celebrate the innovative approaches and technologies we’re using to deliver results to our clients,” said LDG’s Brad Sick, who led the TechTalks Planning Committee
