Stewardship Stories: Adanma Akujieze

In Stewardship Stories, we sit down with a Larson Design Group (LDG) team member who is living our Core Value of stewardship and giving back to their community.

Today’s story comes from Adanma Akujieze, LDG Chief Financial Officer. Adanma has a long history of community involvement and volunteering, including coaching 5–7-year-old basketball for the Selinsgrove Area School District and leading worship and prayer groups alongside her husband and children at the Susquehanna Valley Bible Church in Selinsgrove. Recently, Adanma was appointed as a  board member of Evangelical Community Hospital, a nonprofit community hospital serving Lewisburg, PA and the surrounding area.

How did you learn about this opportunity and why did you want to pursue it?

Evangelical Community Hospital is a prominent organization within the Central Susquehanna Valley and is considered a pillar within the community in the areas of healthcare and stewardship. I had gotten to know some of Evangelical’s leadership through community engagement and a few previous board appointments with other organizations, but this specific opportunity started as an informal discussion about financial stewardship for the hospital – basically just some good brainstorming. It evolved from there into an offer to join the board and I was happy to accept.

What are your responsibilities as a board member and when does your term begin?

My responsibilities will be largely fiduciary or helping Evangelical ensure they’re achieving their mission and vision and being responsible stewards of the hospital’s assets. It’s a community hospital and a nonprofit, but even nonprofits need governance on how to manage finances, employees, and values most effectively. My term officially starts on Jan. 1, 2022 but I’ve already had visits with some of the members of the board and specifically the finance committee, on which I’ll serve.

What skills or experiences from LDG will translate well to this role?

My experience with streamlining of processes and strategic planning, especially as it relates to financial management, will be a significant help in my activities on the board. The stewardship aspect of LDG’s core values was also an important factor in pursuing this opportunity because it’s an example of the importance of being plugged into your community.
