Special Olympics Lycoming County

Five members of our brand architecture department represented LDG at the Special Olympics of Lycoming County‘s annual bowling competition, held at Faxon Bowling Lanes. The employees volunteered as lane assistants, letting the athletes know when it was their turn to bowl and encouraging bowlers as they finished each frame. The volunteers also handed out awards and helped the athletes pose for pictures with former Major League baseball player and Montoursville native Tom O’Malley during the closing ceremonies.

The Special Olympics athletes trained with their coaches on a weekly basis for over two months in preparation for the competition. Athletes competed against each other according to age group and skill set, and were awarded medals and ribbons for their accomplishments. The activities kicked off with an honorary member carrying an Olympic-style torch into the venue.

The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendships with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community.
