David Balzer, AIA, LEED AP
Director - Retail Design
Moving forward in design, technology, and collaboration.
Dave is a winner of design:retail’s prestigious “40 Under 40” award recognizing “retail design industry’s top young professionals and up-and-coming future leaders.” He and his talented team have helped build a national niche serving clients with hundreds of stores in more than 35 states. They tackle a wide range of innovation and technical challenges, from new store rollouts and expansions to remodels or new builds. They also guide clients to refine prototypes, maximize efficiencies and create higher degrees of brand awareness.
Dave’s clients save time and money by incorporating technology such as 3D visualization, virtual reality and cloud project management software. One client was so impressed by the savings that it created its own internal 3D program. Another, Sneaker Villa, utilized his team’s solutions to create an exclusive Air Jordan section within its stores. A new client, the German discount supermarket chain Lidl, is utilizing his team in its quest to expand store count throughout the United States over the next few years.
Dave gets to know each of his staff personally, learning about their challenges and encouraging their individual contributions to improve the company. He has spent 10 years volunteering and guest lecturing for his alma mater, Pennsylvania College of Technology, to help students gain real-world insight into architecture. He’s an advisor to the sustainability program at Penn College, hosts student tours, coordinates seminars and contributes to its STEM program.
