In an effort to expand its Pittsburgh regional presence, Larson Design Group, a 250-person engineering, surveying, and brand architecture firm, has acquired Daniel C. Baker Associates, the oldest continually operated engineering firm in western Pennsylvania.
Daniel C. Baker Associates opened its doors in Beaver, PA in 1890 and is in its fourth generation of family ownership under Craig Baker. Mr. Baker will continue as Principal of the firm. He will be joined by Chris Iachini, PLS, Director of Surveying for Larson Design Group; together, they will oversee operations of Daniel C. Baker Associates.
“Larson Design Group prides itself on being a large firm with small firm values. This acquisition provides us with a great opportunity to reconnect LDG to its own small firm history and demonstrate to our clients that we can grow while maintaining a small firm approach,” said Keith Kuzio, President and CEO of Larson Design Group.
LDG entered the Pittsburgh market with the opening of its Cranberry Township office in 2013. The combined entities will have eighteen employees regionally.
“This acquisition positions us to expand our presence in western PA, to extend our offerings in the Marcellus and Utica Shale Plays, and to increase our services, particularly those related to marine and industrial surveying,” said Iachini.
Craig Baker was equally positive about the acquisition. “This move fits my plan of adding strength to strength, and will allow my family’s heritage to continue,” he said.
Kuzio is mindful of the reputation Daniel C. Baker Associates has in the region. “We’re looking forward to celebrating Daniel C. Baker Associates’ 125th anniversary next year. We recognize there’s great responsibility in carrying on the legacy,” added Kuzio.
Founded in 1993, Larson Design Group has nine offices in four states.
