PITTSBURGH, PA – Larson Design Group (LDG), an award-winning, employee-owned national architecture, engineering, and consulting firm, is honored to announce its successful attainment of Level 2 Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC), reflecting its unwavering commitment to cybersecurity excellence.
In 2019, the Department of Defense (DoD) established the CMMC program to strengthen the cybersecurity posture of contractors handling sensitive data within nonfederal systems. This initiative ensures that organizations, such as LDG, adhere to rigorous standards to safeguard critical information.
The Framework
The CMMC framework is structured to protect sensitive data managed by DoD contractors and subcontractors. It is organized into distinct certification levels, each aligned with the type of information being handled:
- Level 1 Certification: Required for all DoD contractors, this level addresses Federal Contract Information (FCI). FCI encompasses data not intended for public dissemination but does not necessitate advanced protective measures. Level 1 establishes foundational cybersecurity practices.
- Level 2 Certification: This level pertains to contractors managing Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI). CUI, while unclassified, requires heightened safeguarding measures as stipulated by the DoD. Attaining Level 2 certification demonstrates LDG’s ability to implement and maintain robust cybersecurity controls for sensitive data.
Following a comprehensive, multi-year effort, LDG has achieved Level 2 certification, placing it among a select group of organizations nationwide to earn this distinction.
Certified Third-Party Assessment
The certification process involved a thorough evaluation by a Certified Third-Party Assessment Organization (C3PAO). This rigorous assessment verified that LDG not only implemented the mandated cybersecurity requirements but also sustains them at the highest standard while executing federal contracts. This accomplishment underscores LDG’s dedication to protecting sensitive data and its capability to support the DoD’s mission-critical initiatives.
Clients in both the public and private sector can expect safe handling of their information and the latest advancements in digital security when partnering with LDG.
“This certification was a monumental, but necessary, multi-year effort to ensure that LDG both meets DoD’s stringent requirements for safeguarding CUI and remains eligible to work on projects critical to national defense,” said LDG Chief Information Officer Scott Kantner. “We accomplished our goal of being one of the first firms to achieve this certification through strong support from our stakeholders and the dedicated focus and commitment of our internal team and external partners.”
