At Larson Design Group, we believe that our employees are our greatest asset. In this feature, we profile some of the staff members who contribute to our success. This month the spotlight is on Tanya Hall, Traffic Signal Design Technician in our Williamsport office.
Tanya recently received her Traffic Signal Technical Level II and Inspector certification, which enables her to inspect the construction of traffic signals, to inspect their installation before being put into operation, and to monitor them after installation to make sure they meet all standards and are constructed and functioning properly.
What was your first job? What did you learn from it that still influences the way you work today?
My first job was working weekends and summers helping to paint parking lot lines. At that time I already knew I wanted to be in the construction field, so I went to college for heavy equipment operation. While there, I excelled in GPS surveying and ended up getting a job as a surveyor after graduation. I later went back to college for surveying and engineering degrees because I felt that would be the next step up in my career. Through this, I learned that you always need to work hard and aim high to achieve the next step.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I enjoy bodybuilding and staying fit, tractor pulling with my family, hunting, and being outdoors.
What has been your proudest moment in life so far?
It’s difficult to pick out one particular moment. Anytime I work hard to achieve something difficult it makes me proud. I challenge myself to do the best I can and always push to be better.
What trait do you admire in people and why?
Being honest, down to earth, friendly, and nonjudgmental. They are usually the people that you can count on.
What advice would you give to people who hope to follow a career path similar to yours?
First, it starts with education. I would advise someone to get their bachelor’s degree and while doing so take note of what they like and specialize in and follow through with making that your career path.
What do you enjoy about working at LDG?
I like that the atmosphere is positive and productive, and that there are a lot of good people I work with who are willing to help if I have questions.
