Bridge Replacement: Colwell Road Over Bentley Creek

Ridgebury Township Supervisors retained Professional Design Services from Larson Design Group to complete the replacement of the existing bridge multiple steel I-beam superstructure on Colwell Road. This project included the design of the replacement superstructure, design of substructure modifications, scour repairs and construction administration and observation.

The proposed superstructure consisted of precast concrete slab beams. The existing stone masonry substructure units were modified to accommodate the concrete superstructure. Substructure modifications included removal of portions of the existing abutments, construction of new reinforced concrete beams seats and the construction of concrete jackets and cheekwalls. The project also included underpinning undermined of the streamed pavement, improvements to the approach roadway and the installation of guide rail.
