Bridge Feasibility Study: Pedestrian Bridge (over Beech Creek) & Culvert ( over Two Rock Run-Blood Skillet Trail)

Larson Design Group completed a feasibility study which included investigating structure options and alignment options to re-connect the Bloody Skillet Trail, an ATV trail in Sproul State Forest. The options investigated for the Pedestrian Bridge to Span Beech Creek, included a single-span prefabricated pedestrian bridge on existing railroad bridge abutments, a single-span suspension bridge on existing railroad abutments, and a new alignment with a new single-span bridge downstream of the existing location.

The option chosen by DCNR was the single-span prefabricated pedestrian bridge utilizing the existing large cut stone masonry railroad abutments. The structure chosen to span Two Rock Run was a single cell precast reinforced concrete box culvert with precast inlet and outlet end sections.

Access to the site for the contractor was also investigated as part of the study due to the project’s remote location.
