Interior Design Renovation that Provides Up-To-Date Traffic Flow and Work Spaces.
Villanova University’s Falvey Memorial Library’s main floor, which is the heart of the library, was in need of an interior design renovation that would help bring the space up to date. Larson Design Group (LDG) provided complete design in AutoCAD, from schematic design to final design.
Through the use of carpeting, we created a circular flow to the space, with a lighter carpet outlining the “path” and darker carpeting utilized within each “circle” of work space. Computer workstations were redesigned to provide ease of use for group study. Single stations as well as group stations were incorporated into the space. Group stations featured desks that seat up to six, with a computer monitor that has 360º movement. Acoustic panels were added to each marble column in order to provide sound control and to break up the cold look and feel of the marble. A main “Information” desk at the center of the space and smaller “Reference” desks throughout the space create for easier access by patrons. The library coffee shop, previously located in the basement, was moved to the main floor along with an expanded meeting area, both with separate exterior access doors to allow for use “after hours”. A color scheme dominated by burgundy and cream colors replaces the dated 1960’s orange colors that previously existed.
