Final Route 15 Ground Breaking Ceremony
WILLIAMSPORT, PA – The last 10 mile stretch of work to be complete on Route 15 between Trout Run and Buttonwood is scheduled to be open to traffic in late 2010. The ground-breaking ceremony for this work was held on Friday, March 14th at Fry’s Turkey Ranch in Steam Valley.
The project, designed by a team inclusive of Gannett Fleming out of Camp Hill, PA and Larson Design Group headquartered in Williamsport, PA, will include redesigning roughly 6 miles of southbound lanes and 3 miles of northbound lanes. It will have a full interchange at Route 184 and a split-diamond interchange with a connector road between Steam Valley and Green Mountain Roads farther south. There will also be 4 new bridges designed, a new retaining wall, and 6 box culverts.
Once construction begins, the work will be focused on the northbound lanes, interchange ramps, structures and the construction of Route 184 interchange bridge within the first year. Then between the spring of 2009 and late in the year of 2010 construction of the new southbound lanes and interchange ramps will take place.
The results of this project are going to benefit commerce, trade, and the general public alike. It will create a safer, a more efficient route connecting the northern tier to more southern parts of the state.
