Susquehanna Health Systems, Campus Improvements Project
Investing in Your Future
Facing the challenges of aging equipment and outdated facilities, Susquehanna Health Systems (SHS) embarked on a $250 million improvement project for two of their facilities located in Williamsport. The expansion of the Cancer Center at Divine Providence Hospital and the campus improvement project at the Williamsport Hospital and Medical Center would be the largest undertaking since the two hospitals were constructed. Larson Design Group teamed with Granary Associates, Project Architect, to provide site design services for the two campuses.

SHS acquired over 100 residential properties adjacent to Williamsport Hospital to provide them the necessary site for the project. Looking to add significant parking and rotate the front of the hospital 180 degrees was just the beginning. The new direction of the hospital necessitated the relocation of the central utility plant. A six story core expansion and new emergency room are at the center of the improvement project. Susquehanna Health was also looking for a new gateway entrance to compliment the improvements at the campus.

As can be expected with any large re-development, the relocation of a number of existing utilities while still keeping the existing hospitals up and running is the priority.
