Employee Spotlight: Matt Kalcich

At Larson Design Group, we believe that our employees are our greatest asset. In this feature, we profile some of the staff members who contribute to our success. This month the spotlight is on Matt Kalcich, GIS Analyst in our Williamsport IT department.

Where did your career take you before joining LDG?
My career began with SEDA-COG, then took me to a 9-1-1 company in Vermont. I also worked for Union County (PA) before joining LDG.

What was your first job? What did you learn from it that still influences the way you work today?
My very first job was working at Knoebel’s. I dressed up in the different mascot costumes. I learned to have a good time at work, and I still do.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I read, play cards, play with my baby, watch sports, and shovel snow lately.

What has been your proudest moment in life so far?
The birth of my daughter, Audrey.

What trait do you admire in people and why?
Honesty. Honest people are generally good people.

What advice would you give to people who hope to follow a career path similar to yours?
Find a place where you can specialize in something. There’s a broad scope with GIS; if you get really good at focusing on one thing, it makes it easier to branch out.

What do you enjoy about working at Larson?
The diversity of projects. There’s always something different that I get to work on, and lots of challenges.
